The world in my head

Poetry competition 2025 winners

The winners of the 2025 competition have now been announced! Please read their winning poems below…

First place: Alex, aged 9

Nobody knows

Nobody knows that the world in my head

is dark purple and light pink, and sounds like a lemur’s wild screech.

Nobody knows that I dream about Japan made of iron,

and a town that gleams in the sky.

Nobody knows that in the world of my head

there’s a glimmering floating planet high up in the sky.

Nobody knows that in the world of my head

there’s a giant gameboy that people can play on

all the time without hurting their eyes!

Nobody knows that in the world of my head

there’s a secret passageway that leads to my ultimate secret base,

with the best security anyone could ever imagine

and it’s as big as a mansion.

But shhhh don’t tell anyone!

Second place: Alessio, 19

The World in My Head

Nobody knows that the world in my head is red and green

And sounds like a lawn mower

And a petrol strimmer.

Nobody knows that I dream about bowling

and getting a strike

and my friends getting strikes.

Third place: Francesca, 17

Thousands of Tomorrows

My family makes me think of swimming with my mum and dad.

It makes me think of splashing and having fun.

If they were a tree, thousands of tomorrows would sit in their branches,

and so would I laugh with Zachariah and with all my friends.
